The book threads several paths as the characters get ready for and fight the last battle against Morath and Erawan. Important events include:
Maeve locks Aelin into an iron coffin and sends Cairn to torture her mercilessly. She bears the suffering by turning back into memories and declines to swear the blood oath or divulge the whereabouts of the Wyrdkeys. Forced to see her suffering, Fenrys is her only ally.
Aedion leads the Bane and allied forces in Terrasen to fight Morath’s army. He struggles with the absence of Aelin’s firepower and the political challenges posed by Terrasen’s lords, particularly concerning Darrow. Disguised as Aelin, Lysandra battles alongside them while tensions between her and Aedion remain high.
